Urimer were each swindled out oí p30 last Friday by íorged i'hecks, nsented after banking houra by yoimg lads who eald they were sent by strangers, a descriptkra oí whom tliey were not able to give very acinately. The cliecks presented were slgned Wm. C. Stevens and endorsed W. W. Whiedon, and aecompanied by a note purporting to come fi-om Mr. Whedon, requesting tlie cashing of thc síime as a favor. It was aneat ob of forgery and swindling, and must lave been the work of eome one faniliar with the business of these gentlemen and ïthe friendships existing between them. It could not have been done by a stranger.
