When Lord Erskine was made a member of that highly honorable body, the Fishmongers' company, of London, he made an after-dinner speech on the occasion of his first appearance amon them as a member. Upon his return he said to a friend: "I spoke ill to-dav, and stammered and hesitated in the opening." "You eertainly floundered," was the reply, "but I thoug-ht you did so in compliment to the fishmoners."
