When I returned from my latest trip, says a drummer, I went home at some.hing af ter nine o'clockiu the evening. There was my house lig-hted up from op story to basement; carriages were eaving the door, and affairs seemed to e going on inside on a grand seale. I et myself into the basement with a atch key and walleed into the diningroom. Strains of music came from the ack part of the hall. and the mingled aughter and conversations indicated a host of guests. Prescntly my wife came into the dining-room dressed like a princess; she ran up to me, saying: "Oh, Jack! I'mso glad you've come ïome earlv." "So'm 1. ' :-;tM I: "what's the racket - surprise party?" "Surprise party?" said she, with a jout: "no, indeed, it's the anniversary of my wedding." "Tilda," said I, "you're off; you're way off. This is the month of Mareh - it vas in the summer we were married!" She serenely replied: "I know that very well; this is the anniversary of my first marriage. Go put on your dress suit, dear."
