The scène of Éhe atory is laid in Salem, Mass., and the time the latter part of the Seveuteenth Century. The principal characters in the piece are Priscilla, a Puritan maiden; Hecikiah Help, an old Cromwellian Soldier; Bainaby l'.inks, the Village Bellman : Wm. Maylield, the rustic lover; Matilda, the Village ('"iueite, and lady Prendergast, l'i scillas aunt. The story treats i the [ove "f the puritan niaiden for Wm. Mayfield; a cali for volunteers to suppress an lndian outbreak and the donning of the attire of a soldier by Priscilla in order to save u-r lover.
