At the board of regents last meeting in Ann Arbor, reporters were admltted for the ïirst time.- Ypsilantian. Are you sure ? The Zeta Psi has an elegant palanquín in its lodge room, donated by Hom. I. M. "Western, of Grand Ilapids, to whoei it was given by the Turkish Coïnmissioner of the World's Fair. The paper for the University Calendar -wilden has just been put in at this office, makes a pile of sheets 22x32 foiches in size, 58 1-2 feet high, and wefgbs over eight toras. It was made by the Peninsular Paper Co., of Ypsilauti. Prof. T. I?. Bronson, lit. '81, of the Lawrenceville School, New Jersey rea ds a paper this week before the modem language club of Yale Universiiy, wnieh is composcd of past graduates, Instructors and professors in all the modern language departments. Dr. Flemtog Carrow, of the Unlversity has been testing the eyes oí the Normal School studente, and finds that oí 681 students, only 107 have perfect eyesight. He attributes the trouble to the use of white paper for books and papers, and says green is the proper thing.- Fentoii Independent. And yet Dr. Carrow wears diamonds instead of emeralds. A fire that would have caused consternatiön on the campus was nipped in the bud, so to speak, last evening by partie.-i returaing from the de Pachmann concert. They noticed ablaze in what is known as the paint room of the Ldbrary buiMing, aaid broke in and put it out. The fire department was called out but the fire was extinguished before the firemen reached the scène. C. H. Buhl, the wealthy merchant of Tetroit, who died recently, leit $10,000 to the Regents of the U. of M., to be expended in the enlargement of the law lïbrary, to whieh he had been a überal giver in times past. And Leiand Staniord UnLVersity Oete $600,000 from a founder of the University, to be used as an endowment fund for a ILbrary, besides a fine art coliection valued at $00,000. Yesterday the University enjoyed a visit from a distinguished visitor in the person of Enrique M. Nelson, engineer with the national department of agriculture, Buenos Ayres, Argentine, commissioner of agriculture to the World's Columbian Exposition, and representative of several journals at Buenos Ayres. "When the gentleman called on Secretary Wade very fortunately Prof. J. B. Steere was in the room, as Mr. Nelson is not a very ready speaker of the Bnglish language. His face lighted up with pleasure when Prof. Steere spoke to him in Spanish. The professor showed Mr. Nelson through the University. From Ann Arbor Mr. Nelson leaves for Lansing to visit the Agricultural College. - Daily Times. In the January number of The Pliysician and Kurgeon, Dr. Guy D. Kiefer iiieilij '91, has am article entitled '"The Deee and Damgera of Anesthetics ;" Dr. J. G. Huizinga, medie '90, discusses "Alcohol an Aid to tlie Cold Bath;" and Dr. Collins H. Johnslon, medie '83 now pursuing special Btudy in Europe, has a long communicaiiim descriptive oí medical and surüi -al methods as practiced on the Coubinemt. These papers are supplemeated by the usual quota of excellent arti lee whieh contribute to maka number especially valuable, whieh, by the way, makes the advent of the lOth a.nnual volume.
