Tlue democratie caucase were held Friday evening, and ttoere -vere KOiue quite Lively caucuses. This was especially true pi the 4th ward. where peopie who had nevcr before been seen at a caucus were out in ïorce, to meet "ihe boya," as the caueds manipulators are termed. They caught them napplng to a certain oxtent, and seeured quite a lioin's share of the spoiils. Tliere was a contest over every delégate, and over every move made. The opposimg forces were ready for eacli other at every turn, and soanetimee one wa ott top and aomietlmee the other. The "silk 9tckiug8" received a knockout on the start, wlien Hou. Chas. H. Kline was elected ehairman i:n place oí Hon. Chas. R. Wliitman, by a vote of 27 to 24, 'but tlvey rallied when it tinne to the etectloa of tellers, and seeured a foot hold. Later on they carne to the front in great shape, nominating H. J. Brown, for alderinan, by a vote of 29 to 22. It was a great du y for the valieht -J-th, and but few Kuch have been of record. In the other wards there vas not so much turbulente, but all the eaucsuee wre weH attended. Mr. Sclmeldier, the democratie Hominee ior alderinan in the 3d ward, ís a reeident oí that famoais quarter kniown as Maccabee Hill. A quartei that is anxiouely seeking representa tion upon the councii.. Levi D. Wiies is the man needed as president oif the council.
