And the pleasures for whieh we grieve, The kind words anspoken, the promisea iroken Aud many a coveted boou Are stowed i ere Id that land soniewhere- The huid of " Pretty Soon." There are uncut jewels of nossible fame LyiQgabout in the dust, And many a aoble and lofty aim Covered with niold and rust; Aud O I this place while it seems so uear, Ís farther away tiian the jnoon, Though our purpose is fair, vet we never get therf - The laúd of " Pretty Soon." The road 6hat leads to the mystic laud Is strewn with jitifnl w reeks, And the Khips that have sailed for its shiniug stand Bear skeletous on their deeks. It is farther at noon thim it was at dawn, And farther at night than at noon ; O, let as beware of that land down there- The laud of the ■ I'retty Soon."
