Office of the Baobd of Pdblic Works, i Ann Aebob, August 1, 1894. I Regular session. Called to order by President Keech. Roll called. Present- Messrs. Keech and Schuh. Absent- Mr. Clark. A communication from Miss Martha W. Ladd, asking that the time be tended for building sidewalk at her place, until September lst, 1894, on account of being absent from the city until the above date. The Street Commissionerwas directed to examine j the walk and report to the Board in what condition the walk is in. City Engineer Key submitted proflle and grade for South State street, along the east side from Monroe to Hill streets. On motion the grade was approved and recommend to the eouncil for adoption. City Engineer Key submitted a report and proflle of street center and gutters on parts of Churchand Willard streets and East University avenue relative to the surface drainage of East University avenue, there being necessary to move about 2200 yards of earth and that the appropriation of $450 vvill be necessary to put the streets mentioned iu proper condition. On motion of Mr. Keech the report was accepted and recommended submitted to the Council. Mr. Key asked permission for Mr. Edwards to cut Washington street for the purpose of connecting with the High School sewers. By Mr. Keech. Resolved. That Mr. Edwards be allowed to cut Washington street for the purpose of connecting with the High School sewers, provided permission is given him by the School Board of District No. 1, and ttiat this permission for connecting with the High School sewer does not exempt Mr. Edwards from the lateral sewer tax. Adopted as follows: Yeas - Messrs. Keecli and Schuh. The street and sewer bilis for the month of July were read and auditëd by the Board, and their payment recommended to the Common Council. Sidewalk Inspector Sutherland reported that he liad personally inspected the following sidewalks which are j in want of repairs: On William street, in front of the property ef Mrs. M. A. Clancy and Wm. H. Clancy. On Fourth avenue and Fackard st ' at the property of Miss Cornelia F. Kerr. On the east sido of Thayer street, in front of the property of the liucy W. 8. Morgan. On the corner of Hurón and Ingalls streets, at the property of Mary Fitzgerald estáte. Ou the corner of William and División streets, at the property of Elum S. Worden. On the north sideof Kingsley street, at the property of A. II. Schmidt. On motion of Mr. Keech, the Street Commissioner was ordered to take the necessary steps to canse the sidevvalks to be put in good repair. On motion the Board adjourned. W. J. Millbb, Clerk. Minutes of the previous meeting read and approved. The petition and protest of property owners in the vicinity of S. State street, whieh was referred to this Board by the Common Council, asking that the proposed grade as flxed by the City Engineer, on and along the east side of S. State street f rom Monroe to Ilill streets, be modified so as not to damage the property along the said street. The petition was received and flled j and the Board agreed to examine the proposed grade Friday next at 9 o'clock a. in. Two young men frotn the North side, representing the l. O. G. T. lodge, asked permission to use 5th Ward Engine House Hall for a lodge room. The matter was referred to the Street üommissioner for investigation and report. The üetition referred to the Board of Public Works by the Common 1 cil of property ovvners in the vicinity of Washtenaw Ave. between S. University Ave. and Hill street, asking thatthe grade be re-established and a new grade Cxed substantially as it now is, since the recent levelling and fllling at the property of Mr. Coon. By Mr. Keech: Resolved, That this Board does not recommend a c lian ge of sidewalk grade in front of Mr. Coon's residence on WashteHaw avenue, as referred to us by your honorable body for the following reasons: The grade was acted on by the Sidewalk Committee of a f ormer Council.whowith the City engineer and members of this Board, inspected the grade before it was approved by them, or this Board. Adopted as follows: eas- Messrs. Keech and Clark. Mr. Schuh was excused f rom voting. On motion the Clerk was directed to advertise for sealed bids for the replanking of the Sixth Ward Engine House floor according to speciflcations on file in this office, bids to be received up to an including August 22d, 1894, at To'clock p. m. By Mr. Clark: Resolved, Tliat a blue printing frame and apparatus pertaining thereto be purchased for the Engineer's office. Adopted as follows: Yeas- Messrs. Keech and Clark. On motion the board adjourued.
