A high court in Ontario luis rendéred a (iecision that the Canadian govermnent has no power to pass a law punishing a man for bigamy, who being already married takes another woman to the United States or any other country and goes through the forni of marriage. That to say the least isa queer decisión. It is not only aganist public moráis and decency, but is in itself a crime. Tlie lawyer who raised the point that beciuise Canada was a colony of üreat Britain she had no power to protect her own moráis and her own seciety, may Imve been shrowd, but the judge wlio listened favorably to such ah argunient, and rendéred a decisión in accordance therewith was either foolish or trickey, and deservep social ostracism, if notujng worse, for haviug no better common si Q86. That decisión is really a 1 í 1 to all the people ofthe world wbo desire to praetice bigamy tocóme and live in Canada. We opine that the goodcitizensof that i country will find a way to protect theuiselves from this species of crime, whicli iu many instances is almost as bad as inurder. lí Canada lias no power to pasa laws to restrain crime witliin her borders, tlien t lie sooner slie becomcs independent, and obtains that power tlie better for berself, for her good name, and the welfare of her people.
