Tiie south, thank heaven, solid no Ionger; deserted liy Tennessee, abandoned by Delaware, and with its Congressional delegation split and nven with Republicau and Populist representatives in ahnost everj state. ïhe free trade pitcher has been carried once too often to the spoils well, and its fragmedts novv lie with its West Virginia apostle at the base of the great Republicau monument to the honor o the national American principie of pro tection to American industries and pros perity.- Chicago Journal. llore republicana were elected to Con gress in the solid south tlian there weré democrats elected to Congress in the North. In the present House there are ü soutliern republicans- two from Tennnessee and one from South Carolina, North Carolina, Kentueky and Missouri, fn the next House there will be 34, hailiug from 9 states. In the present House there are 98 democrats from the north. In the next there will be 14. The republicans have gained 28 in the south. The democrats have lost 84 in the north. Heretofore it has been a solid south and a divided north. It has taken less than two years of democracy and free trad legislation to reverse the conditions.
