A press dispatch from Kew Orlcans mentions dissatisfaction witli the Senate schedule ou rice. It seems tíie duty was made "largely on the request of u prominent rice miller in Louisiana," ind the Senators who had the matter in charge say they thought the amendment would be satisfactory to the rice growers of Louisiana. Investigation, höwever, showed that Mr. G. A. Jahn, the prompter of the Senators, is "a New York importer of foreign rice," the rice mili in Louisiana beiug only asideshow to his main business. It is said, "if you scratch a Russian you will find a Tartar," and it is pretty certain that examination will develop the fact that about every item in the Gorman bilí has a Xew York importer back of it, unless, indeed, it w.as prepared by a trust.
