Despatchee to this niornlng's papers state that Cari R. Beardsley has been located in a small Canadian town, and that he is hopelessly insume. No very definlte information nwwding Ms condition lias been received. Beardsley was a son of ex-Senator Beardsley, of Indiana, once a prominent figure in state politics. It was ieared by liis friemds that he letter sent to bis home frora Detroit was a forgery and that he had leen foully dealt wltJi. ThSs supposition, howew, seems to be eiitirely unfounded. In comversatkm with Mr. B. H. Kroeze, am intímate friend of Mr. Üranl-Vy he said that in hls Opinioji, tlie reporte of Beardsley's insanity are ejitirely untnie. He gi-iTes several reasoins for h!s belief. In tJie flmst place he says that Beardsley had sufficient reasoai for leaving his friends that any sane man ■n-onld con.sidcr a snff.ciemt motive for lus apparemtly strange conduct. Thdis reason l!es ia.r back of his trouble witli Unh-ersity wark, although that may haw been an immediate cause. Wliat this reason is, is known only to Beardsley and his more intímate friends in Elfchart. Mr. Kroeze is entirely convinced that aside from an inordinate stubbornness, Beardsley was perfectly normal. Another reasoe for dtebelleving the despatches is that Kroeze received yesterday a letter iroim Toronto, saying that Beardsley had not been found. Still a tliird reason and a strang'e one e.xists in a letter received yesterday by Mr. Kroeze from Eev. Towmsend, Beardsley's Elkhart pastor, in which he anticipates the story of lunacy that lias been sent out. Mr. Townsend said that this would undoubtedly follow this reason. Beardsley wrote to li is mother telling her to distributo his property among certaln relatives. Tlie charge of insanity would oviate such distribution. Townsend's stra.ng-6 anticipation of the reports is peculiar. Tlie case seeme to be gettlng more and more complicatl every day, i.nd it will be iuteresting to see whether Mr. Kroeze's A-iew is con-rect, or tlie despatilles.
