Those who attended the New Year's opeu house of the Y. M. C. A. yesterday, were delighted. Not only were they pleased with the genteel and cordial way with which the ladies of the Auxiliary received and entertained thein, with pleasant speech, coifee and cake, but with the general aspect of the new rooms. To be sure the rooms were not fully finished and furnished, but enoueh so to convince everyone of their extreme pleasantness. They are light and airy, and have a sunshiny cheeriness about them that is very taking. Another thing is quite evident, that these rooms will be none too large, for although doubling the capacity of the Washington street rooms just vacated, vet the meeting last Sunday afternoon, and the reception yesterday, told plainly that they were none too commodious for this thrifty organization. There is one thing that miglit be inentioned here, and that is the need of some pictures for the walis. Ten or twelye nice pictures could be used to excellent advantage in decorating the wii lis of these new rooms, and no une could do a handsomer thing jusl now than to make this society a present of at least one good picture, nicely franied. The society is entirely supported by volnntary contributions, and from a little beginning it has kept on increasing in numbers, in deeds and in needs, until noff it bas ventured into larger rooms and more expensive quarters. Although the times are hard, yet the constant (Iemands and increasing expenses of this society have been promptly met by small contributions of friends, and were it not the fact that it is fllliug a great need here in Ann Arbor this thing could not be done. A class of young men come together here that it is difflcultto get hold of in any other manner, and the good influences thrown around them lifts and elevates, and gives desires for living a better life and for right doing and right thinking. It is for the purpose of helping young men that this society was formed, and it is accomplishing its purpose, to a far greater extent tlian its promoters anticipated. Last Sunday aftemoon there wereone lmndred and thirty-flve young men in attendance upon the religious services, which was yery encouraging. One of the pleasant features of yesterday's deings was the presentation of a handsome cane rocker to the president of the Association, Mr. C. W. Wagner, members of the Board and a few other friends contributing fonds for it's purchase. It was received by President Wagner in a very pleasant manner, indicating that lie appreciated the feeling that prompted the givers. May he continue to fill this chair for a long time to come, and be as successful in the future as he has been in the past, in guiding the destinies of the Y. M. C. A. Another feature of the evening was the rendering of a fine musical program, that elicited much praise for its excellence.
