This' is not wliat a good business man would do in bis own afFairs, and is not true economy. The needs of the different state institutions should be provided for as they are actually shown, and enough money appropriated so that that the state need not be compelled to discount any of its resources to obtain ready money. In short, the flnancial affairs of the state should be arranged just as any well-to-do business man would provide 'or his own matters, and all this eau be " properly attended to in a short session }f thelegislature. - Jonesville Independ3nt. Tiue Railroad Gazette of Jan. 4th shows a great decrease in car building in 1894 frooi ïat oí 1893. The decrease itn number built is fully twothiirclis. "Reports trom thArteem companies make the total oí 695 locomotives for 1894 as agaiinst 2,011 built in 1893. It need hawdly be added tliat these figures aa-e unprecedented in the locomotiMe building in the United States. It is to be noted that over 80 locomotives of the total number built in 1894 were built for export. The record of thO car builders is even wonse than tbat öf thO locomoti've builders. In 1894 only eeven companies repoirted as liaving built any freight cars, the output being 17,029 cars. In 1893, 51,216 freight cars were built by 43 componies. Tlhere were 15 important building comipainiies that did not turn out a single oar in 1894. As to passenger cars, the return show that 510 cars were built by eigh companies, as agaimist 1,980 built in 1893 by 14 compamiies."
