While the statistics collected by the Orange Judd Farmer showing the shrinkage in the value of farm animáis during the past jrear have been discounted to certain extent by other reports that ave been made from time to time, they re nevertheless startling. These figures show that the farm uniïals of the United States are worth ;341,800,000 less in the aggregate now lantheywere one year ago. There as been a decline oí $115,000,000 in the alue of farm borses aloue. Tliere are ,395,000 less sheep to-day than i year on and the value of the Hoeks of erican farmers has decreiised $25,803.000, or 30 per cent, in the same time. When to these tremendous losses are added the other losses whicb the farmers have süstained through the decline in the price of wool, wheat, hay, and other agricultural producís, and the decline in the value of tlieir lande, it is apparent that agricultura, which was to derive so much henefit froin the inaugeration of the policy of tariflf reform is many hundreds of millions of dollars worse off to-day than it was durint; the prosperous year of 1892, when the publican party was in control ot the government at Washington and republican protection was operating for the good of the people in all sections of the country. We think the re can be nothing rash about a prediction to the effect that when the present democratie administration retires from control of the governmentit will be many years before the people are ever so foolish as to try another one.
