Judge Ricks, of the United States Court at Toledo, lias decided the cases brought against the T. A. A. & X. M. R. R., for the death cases of Wm. Beanlien and George Alberts, tlie two employees of that roal who were killed near Hamburg some timo ago. It will be remcinbered that the accident was a terrible (me from the fact that an oil tank car bursted and the bodies of these two men were incinerated thereby. Jiidge Ricks has decided that the maximum allowauce of $10,000 each should be allowed the wives of these men. In making the decisiĆ³n Judge Ricks says : "One of the most difficult questions for a court to determine is a correct and just measure of damages in a case of this kind. It is hard to say tliat a human life isnot worth such a sumas the master has given in this case, because the records show these men were of excellent habits, fond and affectionate husbands, and in every way a help and comfort to their families and useful to the public. In a large mnnberof states where the limit for the loss of life has been fixed by the legislative, the sum of $10,000 has been fixed as the maximum allowance to be rnade. This is a legislature construction of a fair maximum to be awarded in such cases. I think the court may properly, therefore, accept the concordant judgment of so many state legislatures, as justifying it in saying that the maximum ought not in any one of these cases to exceed that sum." This will be good news for Chas. H. Kline, of this city, who has been the attorney for the widows in these cases. We understand there are two more cases of a similiar nature pending on the decisiĆ³n of these two.
