A somewhat sparse representaron of I Washtenaw's mntilated Bémocracy gathered in county couvention in the court house Tuesd,ay a. m. It was like a foretaste of the resurreet on to see the I scattered remnaiita rise from tlie graves ' in which they were thought to be seeurely planted last fall and journey to the county seat for the pnrpose of making some forma] but useless uoininations and of sending I9delegates to another useless coavention in Saginaw next ïliursday. At 11:15 enough delegates had put in iin appearance to warrant cülling the eonvention to order. On mdtion of Hiraxn Lighthall, of Sylvan, ex-Prosecuting Attorney Thos. D. Kearney was made permanent chairman of tlie convention. Kugene Oesterlin, of the second ward, wascbosen for secretan-, While the hundred or less candidiites sat in silent and gloomy contemplation of the fate of "the banner democratie couuty of Michigan" and the short'comings of eongress and demoeracy in general Chairman Kearney made up the following committees. On motioii tlie convention atljourneci until 1 :30. Upon reassembling the different committes reporteil, the tempofary otiicers were made permanent, and the business of the convention was proceeded with. The next in order was the nomination of a candidato for county commissioner of schools. M. J. Lehuian in a very good speech presented the name of David A. Hammond, of Ann Arbor. M. T. Woodruft', of Ypsilanti, presented the name of D. C. Yan Buren, of Ypsilanti. The ballots resulted : lst. 2d. David A. Hammond 80 81 Dennis C. Van Buren C7 66 Scattering 4 i Total __ 151 H8 Declared uiuinimous for Hammond by -rote. Mr. Hammond beirng1 called for appeared and made a very pleasant lLttle epeecli. EacJi delégate ivas empowcred to send proxy, but in case of neglect bo to do the delegation was instructed to fill the vacanoy. A. series of resolutions (not pointuig- wit.li pride to last fall) -were adopted, and tli-e coiirention acljourned.
