There was a room fiill last night when the democratie city conveiitiou uaa called to order in the court Uonse. .1. PSchub, chairman of the city committee, called D. A. Hammond to the front as chairman of the conventiou. Guetave Brehm was cliosen For secretary. Chairman Hammond appointed M. J. Cavanaugh, W. W. Beman and C. A. Ward committee on credentials, and Thos. I. .Kearney, Edward Duffy and F. Harpsl as committee on orjranization and order of business. Tlie committee on credentials reported all lifits full and no conteste, and a niotion was put tliat the reading of the ñames be dispensed with. But D. Cramer said no. He wouldn't vote f anything he didn't know anything about. His motioii prevailed and the convention was edified by the reading of the names. After the committee reporte, D. Cramer placed before the eonveution the name of Eugene Manu for mayor. M. J. Cavanaugh presented the name of H. J. Brown. J. F. Schuli arose and told the convention that he was anthorized to say tliat Mr. Ma n n was uot a candi. late. Mr. Cramer wanted to know how late Mr. Schuh got Iris authority. U ras fouro'doek. Mr. Cramersaid his carne later than that. Herman Hutzel Baid he had seen Mr. Mann aiter seven o'clock and he said lie wouhi not run. Mr. Cramer persisted that he wouhj, and Chas. H. Kline took advantage of a temporary lull to present the name of Warren E. Walker. Theo M. J. Martin, who had silently and unobservedly .cre.pt to the front, aróse and inade a speech that made a stir. He had seen Mr. Norria around with a handfull of ballots tor distributioii and liad made up lus inind that someone was looking for the office oí city attorney. Mr. Martin wonnd up a speech by nominating Chris. Martin of the second ward for mayor. The informal ballot resulted as follows: Brown, 27; Walker, 52; Manu, 11 ; Martin, 5. Mr. Walker's noinination was made unanimous. Dr. J. A. Wessinger was notninated by acclatnation for president of the council. For city clerk, M. J. Lehman nanied Waltér Taylor, B. F. Watts preseuted the name of James R. Bach, and the convention proceeded to a formal ballot, whicli resulted in tlie choice of Mr. Taylor, the vote standing, Taylor 72 ; Bach, 17; Will S.-ery 5. JusticeE.B. Pond was renominated ior justice of the peace by ncclaination. Patrick O'Hearn, also, was uomiuated for assessor by acclamation. The city committee elected consista of the chairmen of the vaiious ward committees as follows : lst Ward - Jas. Kearns. 2d " - Sid. W. MHlard. 3d " -Win. II. Mclntyre. 4th " - John Bauiugartuer. 5th " - EraHtuH Masou. 6th " - Edward DnflY. 7th " - Fred H. Belser.
