The street railway people eould make & thrifty penny for themselves and be the nieans of giviug a great deal of pleasure to many people by adoptina; an "excursión rate," if that is the proper term. "What we mean is for them to give the people a chance to ride at a cheaper rate than they do now. If they woüld put on their open cars at about 4 ■or 5 o'clock p. m., and let the same be used for pleasure rides the remainder of the evening, and let the ticket be good for tvvo or three times uround the road, the scheme would become an immensely popular one. There is no water to ride on here, no way to take a pleasure ride ■at all. To ride on the cars for pleasure as tbc limit now is, would be very expensive. In Detroit one can ride five or teu miles for five cents, or jump on tbe ferry boat and ride all the afternoon for ten cents. In all the large cities one an ride a long distance for a small amount ot' nioney. Here there is no such opportunity, and the street railway people have a chance to popnlarize their road by givins: such an opportunity. There are some very pretty streets traversed by the street cars, and if a ■cheap rate ticket was issued hundreds would take advantage thereof. The scheme would certainly give pleasure to hundreds and be a source of profit to the railway.
