The city's dense Isles are quiet, Lightg twinkle in each narrow way, And softly night sprinkles the dewdrops On dusty domains of the day. But hnsh : now the silence of evening Is iuto a melody made, As softly, in measnres of sweetness. Bise notes of a serenade : "Oh, sleep for the night is upoa" thee; In balmy forgetfulness rest; ïhedarkness that bafíles thy visión Should shadow the cares in tliy breast. Thezephyrs are lulling the rosebuds, TIn; night is distillin? the dew, And stars in the distanceare keeping The watch of the spheres over you. Then sleep whlle the hours are dusky, E'er long will be dawning the day ; The goddess of slumber is waiting New strength on thy heart to lay. Sleep; sleep for the raoments are deep'ning The dusk that is mantllng the glade; Sleep; sleep, whlle softly are dylng, The notes of the serenade. Ann Arbor, June 28, '95.
