The city authorities cut down this morning, the old oak tree vihiuh has been for so many years the pride of residents iu its vicinity. It was located at the corner of Hiscock and Spring sts., and before the dry seasons caine on had been a grand old beauty. The tree liad died because of the continued drouths, and perhaps old age had something to do with it also, as the rings would indícate tliat it was over two hundred years old. At the place where it was cut, about one foot from the ground it was fortytwo inclies in diameter, and about eleven feet in circumference. It was an old landmark that residents thereabouta were sorry to see pass away.
