Boston, August 23.- Miss Annie S. Peck, a fanious mountaineer, cables from Zermatt, Switzerlapd, tbatshelias climbed to the peak of the Matterhorn, a feat for which she has been in training for years. It is said that only two other women have done tliis. Miss Brevoort, of N?w York, and Miss Carrel, daughter of a Swiss guide. The top of the mountain is 14,705 feet above sea level and is most difficult of access. Miss Peck is a native of Providence and a gradĂșate of the Univeraity of Michigan. For years she bas been an enthusiastic mountain-climber. In 1885, while studying at Athens, she ascended Hyniettus and Pentilicus. Two years later, during a trip to the Pacific, she rode 4,000 feet up to the snow line of Mount Shasta, and then climbed the remaining 14,000 feet to the summit. Tliis ascent, it was said, was the first made of that mountain by a wonian. Her subsequent ascent of the Cloud's Rest peak, in the Yosemite valley, also attracted attention.
