A letter just received in tliis city Erom Manager Charles Baird tri ves some interesting news with regard to the outook for footbiill daring tiie approacbing season. In the first place it is certain that "Jimmie" Baird will not return to college. This is the most serious loss whicli will befall the team. although Center Rush Smith will be missing and Bloomingston will not play. The rush line will be strong. Carr will probubly take Smith's place, and Henninger, Villa, Yont and Senter are to be back. "Big Jim" Hooper, Hadden and probably Price will try for places. Trainer Fitzpatriek, and Coacb Macauley and Manager Baird will on Sept. 18 take abont twenty men to Nee-ahtah-wanta for two weeks preliminary training. The schedule so far as bas been arranged by Manager Baird, is as follows: October 5, Micbigan Military Academy, atAnn Arbor; October 12, Albion, at Ann Arbor; October 1G, Olivet, at Ann Arbor; October 19, Case Scientific school, at Ann Arbor; October 26, Lake Forest, at Ann Arbor; November 2, Harvard at Boston ; November 28, Chicago universitv, at Chicago. Two dates are left vacant in November. One or both of these may be filled by rames with Pennsylvania or Cornell. Pennsylvania still holds a date open for Michigan during the week of October iö, but it i.s nul at iH cci-tnin that it will be accepted. Cornell wants to play in Buffalo, and Michigan does not. Coach Macauley will probably be assisted by another Princetpn player part or all of the season and a special effort is being made to get gradúate coaches for short periods also.
