Apropos to the organiza tion of U of M. Alumni Associations, two graduates of tlie University were eoni ising recently, one from Detroit and the other from Ann Arbor. The Detroit man said in effect : ' It may be that I do not manifest the rig-ht spirit, and it may be treason to my alma mater, yet il I had a son to eend to college, and could afforc to do it, I should send him to Harvard or Tale, with preference for Yale. And these are my reasons : To gradaatf" from elther of those colleges means something more than aierely securing a diploma. It means something- in after li:'e. The graduates cling together after graduation. Th ere is a bond that tie3 graduates to the o'.d institution that is :iever feit in the University of Michigan. Thu authorities of these Universities liave always managed to keep in touch -with their alumni, and you never yet heard of a Harvard or Yale man that lost his interest in his alma ma'ter. Here at Ann Arbor it is different. Tliere ia no such feeüng. It is more like from a high school than from a great university." The Ann Arbor alumnus, after coinciding witli all that his triend sa id added this : "And I Tvould go still further. "II I liad a ,airl to edúcate I should not eend lier to the O. oí M., or to any coedueational college. I would fsend her to Yassar or some strictly iemale co'lege. And I will teil jou why : Here at Ann Ai-bor glrls are ieft to their dvd sweet will. Tliey are given instruction in nothing but books, They are placed on exactly the same footing that the boys are, and requived to pursue exactly the same studies. Tliere is nothing done to polish them, simply to cram their lu.ads f uil of book knowledgei I ehould want my daughter to acquiie th o accomplishments, to be taught how to appear graceful and how to make herself agreeab'e in the parlor or at the banquet table. Do you tbink she would acquire any of that soit of an education in the V. of M.? My experience is that she would not." Much more was said. all in the same tenor, but spaee will not permit of further quotations. The drift of tbelr conversa t ion is not given for any other purpose than to set our University authorities and others inteiested, to thinking'. If these two M'oitliy graduales thiuk in that way, how -many more are there who think in the same way ? Is there any rea son for it ? If there is, can any scheme be devised to change it ? I.s there any possible way to keep the graduiites of the U. of M. in -.nore hearty sympathy with the University after they leave its portals ?
