WEDNESDAY, .TANUARY 2, 1893. The Jauuary sessiou of the Board of Supervisors was held at the Court House at Ann Arbor, Washtenaw Co., Michigan, at 10 a. m., Wednesday, January 2d, 1805. Called to order by Pres. pro tem. Edwards. Roll called. Quorum present. On motion, Mr. E. B. Stone was reeognized as Supervisor froni Augusta, and that he be placed on all committees made vacant by reason of the resiguation of William Dansingburg. On motion, a committee of flve was appointed to examine the bonds of the various county officers iu connection with the Prosecuting Attorney, and report on the sumciency of the sureties thereon and the legal form thereof. Committee - Mr. Osboru, W a t k i n s, Hunter, Wheeler, Whittaker, Prosecuting Attorney. RECESS TO 2 P. M. P. M. Session- Called to order by President. Roll cali, quorum present. On motion of Mr. Duncan, a committee of three was appointed to uotify the sureties on the bond of the ex-County Treasurer to pay into the Treasury the amount necessary to cover the deficit which is said to exist. Committee - Duncan, Oesterlin, Hauser. (By Friday, Jan. 4th, 2 p. m.) On motiouof Mr. Case, the Committee to settle with County officers was increased to five members. The Chairman added Mr. Case and Mr. Watkins to said Committee. The rumor having been circulated that the Board of Supervisors, as a whole, and as individuals, were aware that there was a deficit in the Couuty Treasury while the Board was in session in October, 1894, Mr. Miner asked that each mernber of this Board be now called upon to state whether or not he knew previous to the adjournment in October that there was a deficit in the County Treasury, whereupon each member stated that he had no such knowledge. Roll cali, quorum present. The Special Committee to examine the Bonds of the County Officers reported that they had examined the bonds of the County Treasurer and the County Clerk and recommended their approval. On motion, the bond of William F. Rehfuss as County Treasurer was approved, subject to one correction, that the name of E. A. Hauser, one of the sureties be erased for the reason that this Board do not consider that a member of this Board before which a Bond comes for approval should be a surety on a Bond which he is to aid in approving. On motion. the reuort of the Committee to settle with County officers was made a special order for Friday, January 4, 1895. Mr. Duncan offered the following : Resolved, That the compensation of the members of the Board of Soldier's Relief Commission be iixed at three dollars per pay, and inileage one way at ten cents per mile. Resolved, That the County Clerk be instructed to draw au order on the County Treasurer for the copying of Li her H of Deeds at the rate of lOcts per folio, the whole to be paid to A. T. Huglies on the completion of the work. On motion of Mr. Case the resolution was amended to fix the compensation at One Hundred and Fifty Dollars. Adopted. Mr. Pond offered the following; Whereas, Public Acts of 1893, page 83, requires Register to keep an Index of Discharges of Mortgages - Resolved, That A. T. Hughes be allowed lücts per discharge for keeping such index. On motion the report was indefinitely postponed. On motion the Building Coramittee was instructed to take an inventory of property at the Court House and Jail. Mr. Edwards offered the following which was adopted. Resolved, That the Prosecuting Attorney be and is hereby instructed to biing suit on the bond of Paul G. Suekey, ex-treasurer, and take all necessary legal steps to collect from the sureties the amount which shall appear to be due from thein. The Special Committe appointed to examine the bonds presented by county officers elect, reported that they found them correct in forni and recomuaended their approval. Report accepted and adopted. Mr. Cuse moved to reconsider the vote by which tlie claims of Paris S. Banfield was ordered paid. Carried. Mr. Ca.se moved that the claim be disallowed which was lostby the following vote : Yeas - Messrs. Alber, Braun, J tul I , Case, Duucan, Galpin, Grosshaus, Hunter, Hauser, Stone, Watkins, Wheeler- 12. Hughes $J50 was reconsidered and made a special order for 11 a. m. Tuesday. On motion the action had with regard to the claim of Arthur Brown was reconsidered and the claim allowed at $33.20 instead of $29.20. Mr. Wheeler offered the following: Resolved, That we reconsider the action taken approving the bond of Wm. Rehfuss and that the bond be referred to the committee to examine the county offieer's bonds. Which was adopted. Mr. Miner offered the following which was adopted : Resolved, That the County Clerk be directed to procure the necessary blanks for reports for Uommittees on Claims, and that hereafter all reports froin such committees sliall be made on such blanks, signed b}' the committee and that the same be flled by the County Clerk. On motion the Prosecuting Attorney was allowed one hundred dollars per year for office rent beginning Jauuary 1, 1895. Whereupon the Board adjourned to 10 a. m., to-morrow. Thomas Young, ,Tno. R. Hughes, ex-register of deeds, the sum of uine dollars, and to C. P. McKinstry, register of deeds, the sum of one hundred forty-oue dollars for copying Liber H of Deeds which is in bad condition, the same to be paid wheu the work is completed. And that the said ex-register be paid ten cents for each instrument, for indexiug Discharge of Mortgages up to Dec. 31, 1894, the same to be paid when the work is completed, and that the same price be flxed for the present register during his term of office. On motion the resolution allowing Gustave Brehm $200 for making certificates was reconsidered, and the matter was referred to a special committee - Messrs. Case, Oesierlin, and the Prosecuting Attorney, reporting thereon at a special session which is to be called Jauuary 15, 1895. Mr. Dancer moved to reconsider the motion allowing the Prosecuting Attorney office rent. The motion was lost by the following vote : Yeas- Messrs. Alber, Brauu, Ball, Case, Dancer, Hauser, Watkins, Walter, Whittaker- 9. Nays - Duncan, Davenport, Edwards, Forsyth, Grosshans, McQuillan, Lighthall, Miner, Osborn, Oesterlin, Speechly, Scott, Stone, Wheeler, and Young -16. The committee to settle with the oounty officers made the following report: To the Honorable Board of Supervisors. Your committee to settle with the county officers would respectfully report that we have made a cursory examination of the books in the County Treasurer's office, and as iar as we have been able to ascertain, we have found that there is a deflciency of $4,000, or more. " She will explain the relation of woman suffrage to the home and the state. At a recent -wedding the green of the bride's bouquet was myrtle cut from a root that was growu from a sprig taken from her mother's inarriage bouquet.
