Having been asked by a number of eople the average amount of taxes jayable throughout the Conuty towns, eaving out the cities, we have compiled table thereof, taking a $1,000 assessïent as the basis, for the year 1894. Tliat is to say, if a person is assessed or $l,C00 on"', the tax roll, he vvill have o pay into the treasury of his township be following amouut in taxes in the arious townships of this county : Ann Arbor Town $ 7 50 ugusta. 10 60 Bridgewater 473 Dexter 4 89 Freedom 4 70 Lima 7 32 Lodi 5 33 Lyndon 5 64 Manchester 8 30 Northfleld 6 40 Pittsfield 5 76 Salem 5 58 Saline 6 60 Scio 6 44 Sharon 5 00 Superior 5 94 Sylvan 8 80 Webtser 5 74 York 7 50 Ypsilanti towu 6 58 Total $125 25 Average on $1,000 assessment $6 26 The two districts of Ypsilanti City are follows : Ypsilanti City lst. dist $7 28 ' 2d. " 7 20 This would make a total of $139.73, and an average of $6.35 for the entire county outside of Ann Arbor Citv. The tax on $1.000 assessrnent ia the City of Arm Arbor for the year 1894 was 114.80. The differeuce was considerably n favor of the country. In regard to the City of Ypsilanti here is no way of aseertaining from the records in the county treasurer's office what their tax is, so course that is not taken iuto consideration in the figures ven above. It is but right to say that the amount aid on a $1,000 assessment varies in every township acording to expense of the school district. We have endeavored ;o select the average, directly between the extremes. In both Saline and Scio, those living in the village district pay more than the amounts mentioned, wbile there are others far below quoted figures.
