My father, white in England, was a Methodist minister. At that time the Conservatives wero in power, led by Lord BĂ©aeonsfleld as prime minister, and many of the peopli were dissatisfied with the way they carried on the government. One Sunday morning my father was holding a meeting, and in the opening prayer, as was the custom, he prayed for the royal family and for 11 who were in authority, asking that they might learn wisdom, hut if they refused to do so that they be replaced by others who would. Just at this functure a man in the audience cried out loud enough for all to hear him: 'Amen; shift 'cm, Lord, shift 'em." It was plain to be seen that he was a Liberal.
