The followiug clipping írom a Detroit paier refers to tlie present director of the Ann. Arbor Art School and shows in wliat high esteem he is held in tiiat city: "The Museum of Art School has taken another step forward iu tlie addition of Francas P. Paulus to its stalï of teachers. Mr. Paulus went frum Detroit soine 15 years ago to study at I the Philadelphia Acadcmy. Later he studied at Munich, where he ranked among their sfcrongest studente. He then became one of the originül staiï of teachers in the Detroit school, since whieh he has further pursued bis studies in Paris, where he was a successful exliibitor at the Salon. "He returned to Detroit a few months since and wil] in the future be asaocfated wlth Mr. Ives in the academie department of the school. AVhile formerly connected with the school Mr. Paulus was im mengel y popular with the pupils.'' Mr. Paulus gives instruetion in the Ann Arbor Art School on Friday and Saturday, every week, to about 40 pupils, who can have the benefit of his criticism on both day.s, if they desire it. He hararoused great eutliusiasm in eliarcoal and pastei work. Charcoal work has, heretofore, been conssdered drudgeiy, but now it is a delignt and a most encouraging feature of the school. Mr. Paulus says he éxpects to make water color work and oils more prominent for the remainder of the year and will close the year's work with an exhibitiou as usual. He has ivst organized a sketch class wliieh will meet for work from life, for the first time next Friday afternoon from 4:30 to 6:30. Anyone wishing to join this class can make inquines of Mr. Paulvis any time on Friday at Room 18, Masonic block.
