The neighboring British possesty sins in the "West Indies and Guiana ere not very lucratove so far as traöe is concerned. During the last five years we have bought to the extent of $67,556,530 from the British West Indes, sellng (hem only $42,230,435 worth of our American products. From British Guiana., in the five years we bought $21,021,262, eelling only $9,913.067. The balance of trade was $36,435,000 against us in these two instances, ' so that John Bu'l is not losing everything in hls transactions "vith us. Again, looking at our trade with British India and the British East Indies, we ftnd that where we so!d to them to the extent of $18.410,214 in the last five years, we have bought as much as $110,194,324 oí the products of Lascar labor, thia balance of trade being against us to the extent of $91,784,110. But thie ie not the only gain to the British Empire. These Indian goods were made by Lascan labor which was paid in silver coin, and the matei lal oí which they are constructed was paid for in silver. John Buil,, ho wever, won't take silver payment from us for them. We have to Toot his büls with gold coin, and a pretty Httle profit he makes by the transaction. "'Going into a decline."
