Seeretary oL State Gardner has issued advance sheets of a census bulletin showing by sex, ages, in periods of years, nativity and parc-m íia.üvity, ■ the number of persous iu Michigan the last eensus year, and the number and proportion of ehildren of school age who -attend school. The nuinber of persons reported as having attonded sohool is 471,672, of . whom 431,767 ave na vive, and 42.ÍJ05' foreign born. Of the natlve pupils, 210,520 liad native parents, 127,334 foreign bom parents. 82,544 one parent natlve and the other foreign born, and' for 5,369 the pareut nativity is not reported. Of the foreign born pupils 323 had native parents, 40,422 foreign born parents, 1,918 one pareut native and the other foreign born, and for 242 the parent nativity is not report ed. Compaxed with the number of pupils! returned in 1884 there Is an increase of 96,179, or 25.41 per cent Population increased 20.92 per cent in the saine time. The increase in nathe pupils Is 93,00(5, or 27.45 per cent, and j of foreign born pupils 3,524, or 8.95 1 per cent The native pupils with '. tive parents increased 35,455, and the native pupils with foreign born parents 30,012. The former is an inei-ea.se of native pupils with foreign bom parents and is nearly three and half times the increase of foreign born pupils. The school popula tion of the state, that is, persons aged 5 to 20 yeaxs, is 699.5S7, divided as to ages as foílows: 5 to 10 years old, 248,993; 10 to 15 years, 229,663, and 15 to 20 years, 220,931. Of the 699,587 ehildren of school ages in the state, 466,314, or 66.66 per cent, attended school during the sensus year. Of the ehildren aged 5 to 10, 72.08 per cent; of those aged 10 to 15, 90.85 per cent, and of those aged 15 to 20, 35.39 per cent, attended school during the year. The number of persons of school ages attending school in the incorporated cities was 154,899, or 62.74 per cent, and in the country outsflde of the cities, 311,415, or 68.79 per cent of the whole number óf ohildren aged 5 to 20 years. The total number of persons, natives of this country, between 5 and 20 years of age In Washtenaw aecording to the census of 1894 was 11,734. Of this number 8,701, or 74.15 per cent had attended school during the census year. The total number of foreign born persons of school age was 769. Of these 413, or 53.71 per cent attended school.
