Sir Herbsrt Maxwell, M. P., retells a tale about the lord high cominissionerBhip of the general assembly of the Church of Scotland. When Mr. Disraeli was forming his adniinistration in 1874, a certain noble earl, noted, in addition to many estimable qualities, for his fecundity of foroiftie expletive, expressed a strong desire to liecotoe master of the buckhonnds. "Well," said Disraeli, "I bad niyself thonght oí ta&t post for yonr lordship, but the truth u ihat her majesty is very particular Abont the langnage used in the hnncing field, so I bave determined to snbmit yonr name for her approval as lord high commisBioner to the general assembly I" And to tbat post he was appointed aecorriingly.
