E1. Courier : Betrug present at tlie High School Hall during the "Deestrict Skule" perorniance, the thought came to me vhen the seat broke down in the fjalery. wliat an awful thing a panlc v-ould be in that placo. The modes of xit from the hall eem cramped and cluttered, and if a cry of fire or any other scare should reate a panic, wiiich would be a ■ery easy thing to happen, whftt a ïorrible loss of life, and injury thereto would result. Allow me to sugget to the school board the erection of at least one pair of outside st-aire, on the north side of the building, similar to thoe erected at rhe fniversity Hall. Perhapa anorher pair eould'be put up at some ottoer point to better insure the safety of an audience therein. As a cftizen and tax-payer I have one question to ask : Should such a panic occur, and loss of life result, as 6 surely would, would a guit against the school district for erccting a piíblic hall without a suflicient number of exits, resulfc in a verdict agaiust the district ? What do you think about it ? Would tlie tax payers find tbemselves n a costly dilemma ? What is true of the High School hall is doubly true of Newberry Hall. A panic would be a terrible catastrophe ttoere. It seems to the writer that the lack of facilities for Ketting out of tliat hall ought to receive the attention of the building inspectora or other proper authorities of the city. Is therO not a state law governing this point ? This communication is written, not in a spirit of fault finding, but to cal] attention to a defect in the aonstruction of these buildings that may lead to serloue consequences.
