(Conductedby the W. C. T. V.) The twentieth annual convention qL„ , the Woman's Christian Temperan?" Union of the second district of Michigan held its first session yesterday at two o'clock, in the Baptist church. The first liour was a prayer and conference meeting lead by Mrs. Mary C. Wood, district treasurer. Following this carne the roll cali, appointing of committees and miscellaneous business, Mrs. Jennie H. Lockwood, district president in the chair. Mrs. Amy Jones gave a report of the department, Evangelistic and Sabbath Observance ; Mrs. Carrie Lamb, of Sunday School work, and Mrs. Mary E. Sutton, of Lumbermen and Miners. After the report of Mrs. Mattie Gainsley, corresponding secretary, Mrs. Julia D. Stanard gave reports of Union Signal and other W. C. T. U. publications. Last evening was given to addresses of welcome and responses and presentation of the six general divisions of the work of the W. C. T. U. The music was furnished by Miss Cole, assisted by a quartette. The children of the Loyal Temperance Legión also sang several selections. The day sessions of the convention will be principally devoted to business, discussions, brief addresses and reports. All of the meetings will be public. This afternoon at four o'clock will be "Children's Hour." Supt. Perry and other will speak to the children. The singing will be by the L. T. L. A large attendance of the children of the city is desired. The second evening will be an "Even-, ing with the Young People." Professo Kempf will furnish the music. The last evening of the convention, Miss Jessie Ackermann, one of W. C. T. U. "Round the World" missionanes, and one of the foremost women travelIers in the world to-day, will lecture. Miss Ackermann's adventures have been nianv and varied and her description of them is a marvel of word-pamting. Miss Ackerman will lecture Fnday, April 17, at 3 p. m. in the Baptist church to the women of the city, on the condition of women in different countnes.
