1' or many years tlie business men of Ann Arbor have been invited, yes, more than invited, urged, and in some instances threatened with a boycott i( they did mot give to the fuoid for University athleties. Th en when any great game of either foot-ball or base ball, such as they all desired toi vritness came aff, it would be takeni to Detroit. This not only prevented them from Beeinlg tlie game, but nlso took many people to Detroit to trade who would othrwilse trade here. The ü. oí M. Iaily, in ö, very fair article upon this subject, says : "Tlie fact that the merchants of Ann Arbor are entitled to Bome coneideration eíhould also be a factor In favor oí this change. The business men of thiis town liare ;been. asked; to eontribute to athleties every year and they have responded liberally, but scant return has been given for their generoisity- not even a public acknowledgement of their contributions has been made. The Detroit game takes considerable mo-ney to that city Whieh would oth&rwise be spent in Ann Arbor. A fair spirit of reciprocity öhould be sliown in this matter, lespeclally Tvhen there are no out---eigliing reasons to the contrary." ! The managers of the Athletic Association can see in this, one great reason -vvliy it is becomlng liarder and harder each year to secure any subcrip-tio'ns amomg Ann Arbor business men for athlet!cs.
