Lord Chief Justica Erle was prone to interrupt counsel when it was íound that the judges had already made up 1heir minds against him. On eme occasion Mr. Bovill, Q. C, soon afterwa-rd made a j adge, was stopped with : "Here we stand, four men, ;ind we have all íirmly (emphasizing the adverb) made up our minds that there must be a new trial; but if you tbink it worth your while going &n after that (playfully), why, of course, we'll keep on hearing you." hereupon the Q. C. laughingly sat down. On another occasion he interrupted with: "I beg to inform the counsel 'there is a time in the mind of every man at wh' h he Iets down the floodg-ates of his u lerstónding and allows not one mor? drop to enter;' and that time in my mird has fully arrived."
