S'nnrjers who come to Ann rbor an 1 remaln tor a time, are always Oelitrhted with the trip around the boulevard. It is universally pronounced "one of the finest views to be found in 1he west." And yet tbe people ol Ann Arbor nelect it shamjiilly. The street is gullied out anJ iverythlnft- allowed to take on a. Tumbled down appearance, much io the diepleasnre oí those who enjoy its otherwis'; beautiful features. Aun Arbor can afford to make this a boulevard ia reality as well as in name. It can te made one of the finesa features possesed by any city In the state, and it is not to the credit of Aain Arbor tihat imcli1 a thins is not done. Tkerc should be at least $500 per year expended upon tihis 'it of City property for several years, and such an expenditure would be a wise inve-tnient of the tax-payer's money. Ann Arbor does not poseess a park or avenue for tiae pleasure and [;ood h-ealth of Lto citizans, that amounts to ai!ything. It is sucn a praitical city that no'thing lias ever been done at public expense t beautify it. Private individuals have built lawn ext-ensions out of a selfisli motive, to protest ,their trees, but the two little puW.c sguai-e?- he one r.nown as Ilaiiovei' square, and xlie other as Fo!ch park, are left as public eomiiio)-, with no attempt at tmprovemeni- or adornment. It i.s hish time tor ia change inthis respect. Ann Artoor should wake up to thu necessity of beautifying its two wee little park3 and its -street of magnUioent poasibilitiee, know.a as Hie boulevard. Tha land tor the boulevard, the official title of which is Oedarbend Ayer mie, was all donated by private parties. It was eiven to the :lty with the explicit understanding that it was to be worked aud improved, and kept in good condition. It is thought by come that the doners miight rip-ntiiilly claim their land again if they choso to do so, -and it would perhaps be a,s weU that they should If souiething is not done to Iceep ,hestr92t in a good condition.
