The above portrait represents Hon. Andrew J. Sawyer, republican candidate for tlie legislatura in this district. His history is familiar to every man, vvoman and cliild in the district. His jrivate life bas been an open book tin t ill who passeu might read, and known to each one of us; so pure, so full of afection for his family, so overflowing with cordiality and kindness for liis riends and neigbbors that it is often reniarked and re-remarked that as a friend and neighbor no better man ever lived. As a business man, as a man of abiliy, as a man who can contend for the intrest of his constituents, as a man who will take rank among other men, need tliere be u word said? Acknowledg( as lie is to be at the head of the bar o the great commonwealth of Michigan the good people of this first district wil be but honoring themselves in electin him. It is seldom that a man of Mi Sawyer'a standing and ahility ean b induced to accept au office ui this kind and we believe t.ho peoplp ipprociut the sacrifice he niakes in so doiuy. As a vote getter Mr. Sawyer is a very stroug man. He lias represented thi district with uiarked ability in days gon by. And in 1890, when the district wa overwhehningly democratie, he led a forlorn hope, and came witbin a few votes of being snccessful.
