Many strong sound money men in the state who are not satisfied with Mr. Pingree's former leaning towards free silver are undecided howto vote on governor. Tlie Courier believes him to be an honest bimetalist, not wanting a single silver standard, nor a gold standard, but the two together. Whetlier this is feasible or not is beyond the issue at present. While the views of the candidate on silver are of the utmost iinportance if they are up for president, or congress , or state law makers, it is of small cousequence on governor of a state. Mr. Pingree or Mr. Sligh will be elected. When one knows the kind of man Mr. Sligh is it would greatly help in the decisiĆ³n. He has always been a disturber in the republican ranks in Kent Co. - an erratic office seeker, who got soured and left the party to plunge into the rankest kind of populism. If elected he would surround himself with these deuiagogues with all their freaks, crazes and dangerous crankisms. Such men are not the best ones to have at ;he head of state. Mr. Pingree is honest fearless and incorruptible. We believe he would do a reat deal of good at Lansing. The peole cannot afford to give the opposition ie prestige of Sligh 's election, which ould hurt in the future.
