He Beat The Ins. Co.
Prof. J. Stanley Grimes, is a gentleman who has. reaohed his 90th year, and has an eye as bright, and Intellect as keen as any man who has iot seen half his years. He is a Bostonian by birth, a thorough American in make up, a scientliie lecturer and elocutionist by profession, and at one time held the chair of Medical Jurisprudence in the Medical college of Vermont. Along in early Ufe he took out a life insuranc epolicy in the New Jersey Mutual Life Ins. Co. of Newark, N. J., for $3,500. When he was 70 years of age he wrotc to the company, asking them what they would give him for the policy and cali it square. They answered that they would give $2,000 in cash. Prof. Grimes cogitated over the matter and finally refused the offer. Tlien the company took out a table of estimates, set its accountants at work and flgured out that they would offer him $410 each year, as long as he lived. This offer was accepted. That was twenty years ngo. :ind the $410 has been coming ever since, and has already reached the sum of $8,200. This is the first time on record that we heard of any one beatimr a life insurance company. The oild gentleman does not have the appearance of being over 70 years of aiïo now. He is active, both physically and mentally, and ii he does not live to draw $410 for ten years longer, then appearances are deeeiving, that's all.
