of their victoíy over Lehigh at Detroit Saturday, but wept over the gate receipts, which lacked some $500 oí meeting expenses. The Detroit alumni are scored for thatl by a writer in one of the Detroit papers. That was a litíle unjust. The Detroit Alumni have been a great help to the University intimes past. They have come to the rescue many times when the University needed their aid, and they are as loyal to-day as any body of Alumni in any city, to any univereity in the land. The Detroit Alumni are ealled upon a great deal for different things the University has needed. The observatory carne from Detroit people ; the Waterman gymnasium is a gift from Detroit ; books without number in the University libraries are gifts of Detroit citizens ; the great Columbian organ never would have belonged to the University had it not been for the alumni of Detroit coming to the aid of the fund. Where would the Woman's Gymnasium been had it not been for the generosity of Regent Barbour, and other Detroit citizens ? Simply because the peoplethere failed to patronize one foot-ball game, óccuring in the heat of a great political campaign, is not a good reason for scoring the Detroit Alumni. They do not deserve it. To be sure we all proud of our foot ball team, nd would like to see it as successful financially as it is in play. But Saturday was a day that few people in Detroit thought or cared for anything else but the great political parade there. Had the game been a week later, it would have been many dollars in the pockets of the team. Then there is anotlier thing. Had the game been played here at Aun Arbor on that day, instead of in Detroit, the boys would have made nioney instead of Losing it. The Courier doos not think that such would always be the case, but it thinks that the assertiom is true oí that game and it would have been only justice to the people of Ann Arbor that they should have had the opportunity.
