On Sunday mornilng last Mrs. John M. Bmoofcs, after a ïingesrimg' illness covering same fourteem months, passed to the eilent shore. She was a naUive of New York, where she was bom in 1849. In 1858 sIm? same ta thAs tt-e, and eom yeare after, wliile reslding in Pontiac, was mairied to Mr. Smoots. From there they moved to Detroit, moving to thta city in 1887 where they have resided ever ince. Mrs. Smoots was a devout Onristian, a member of the Ohurch of Christ, and was am earneist worker in the cause of missions aaid in' the Ladiee Aid society of the elm-rch. She leaves a husband, two sons and a wide circle of friends to mourn her loss. The remaiins were taken to Detroit Monday tor interment. The funeral was held Tuesday at 2 p. m., attSie residence 'of the eister of the deceased, Mrs. Nickels, No. 127, Tweoty-third street, Detroit, Rev. O. 1!. Newman, of the Central Chrirtian church of Detroit, preaching the sermón. The bereaved famiiy have the sincere sympathy of their many friend.
