Some discussion has lately occurred in scientiflc journals on the question wbether newiy-hatched chickens will 'drink water if the mother hen does not Bet them the example. Mr. H. W. ElJiott, in a letter to Science, answers poeitively that chickens wil] drink of their own accord. He has froquently placed a dish of water before a brood batched the day before, acd observed the chickens, without any maternal or assistance, their bllls into the water and up their ceds to ewallow it, in the míiTiner of full-gTOivn fowls.
