The animal parish meeting of the UnltaTiar society lias been turned lnto a slipper and social affair, and made quite a church evemt. It was held last Wednesday evening with ■one hundred in attendance, and was full tof delightful surprises. Prof. W. H. Pettee presided, and after the supper a number of speeches and papers were read. Mrs. Walter Whitlark, Miss Oarlotta Bullís, Miss Helen Georg, Br. Zimmerman, and Mr. A. !L. Alexander, all told of different branches of the church work, and how each was prospering. After these reporte short speeches were made by Messrs. O. E. Butterfield, B. C. Barney, T. B. EDenry, Geo. W. Bullis. Prof. Chas. E. Greene and Mrs. Sunderlaiid. Toen carne the surprise. Bev. J. T. Sunderland arose, and with very appropriate words, presentad to each member of the board of trustees a souvenir oane which he had secured while traveling in foreign lands. Peculiarly carved canes from Damascus were presentad to Profs. Pettee, Greene, Judge Harriman, Messrs. Allen and Whitlark, and to Mrs. Finney and Mrs. Motley ; canes having finely carved horses for a haadle, were given to Messrs. Bullis and Childs wlth the remark that as old soldlers they no doubt often wlshed they had ,a horse when they dld not possess one ; and a regular curio from the Himalgya mountains, India, to Dr Zimmermam. Then the tables were turned, and the trustees, through Prof. Pettee surprised Rev. aad Mrs. Sunderland by presenting them wiith a Bilver soup tuteen wlth a gold-llned ladle. Thds was in hoaor of the couple'S 25th marriage anuiversary. It was a happy occasion all around.
