Anew swindle is being worked in a nmnber of Michigan citles by two conïederates in this manner: One of the swindlers goes int.o a store and purehases a small article, paying w;th a one, two or flve dollar bilí that lias been previously marked. He gets bis change and departs, and in a few minutes the other swindler enters the store and purchases a cigar or soine other article, and alter waiting a moment asks the clerk why he does not give him bis change. The clerk informa him that he bas not yet paid him. The swindler iusists that he has and remembers it very distinctly, because the the bill he handed himhadayery peculiar mark upon it, whicb he describes. The clerk looks in the money drawer, tinds the bill as described, gives him bis cbange and ayologizes for detaining bim.
