Oh, could we but have seen, while they were ours, The grace of daya forever passed away ; Had we but feit the beauty of the flowers That bloomed for us before they knew decay; Uould we have known how we should yearu in valn For looks and siniles no more to greet our sight, Or how the fruitlesa tears would fall like rain For hours ol sweet communion, vanished quite; Thelr worth to us, had we but better known, Then had we held themdearer while our own, Had kept some salvage for the joys o'erthrown, And lonellness itself haa found as less alone !
