Altliough the state officers to be eleeted in Michigan tbis spring will have nothing to do with the making of national laws, still the campaign should not be deemed unimportant in respect to national issues. The Remblican convention at Detroit reafflrmed the St. Louis platform, and pronounced anew its allegiauce to sound Republican principies. The conglomérate eonvention at Grand Rapids acceptod the Chicago platform, with' its Altgeld attachments, and lts f ree trade declarations. The verdict of Michigan last fall was prononuced in favor of the former. The state cannot afford this spring to declare in favor of the latter. A failuro to return a good Republican majority at this time will be reíarded as a weakening of the Republican forces, and will be a discouraíii-ment to the majority in Congress in their effort to carry out the pledgos made by themselves and in Iheir beha lf. The fusión platform is just as offensive every way as was the Chicago declaration, which was reputfiated by the people. Y et it is the platform upon which the preaeut contest is mude. A vote for Yaple and liis asSociates on :he ticket is equivalent to in indorsement of the platform, and will be so regarded by everyoue when the returns come in.
