One day a wonderful bird tapped at the window of Mrs. Nansen's home at Christiania. Instantly the window was opened and the wife of the famoua Arotic explorer in another moment covered the little messeng-er with kisses and careases. The carrier pigeon bad been away from the cottage 30 long months, but it had not forgotten the way home. It brought a note from Kansen stating that all was going well with him and his expedition in the polar regions. Kansen had fastened a message to a carrier pigeon and turned the bird loose. The frail courier darted out into the blizzardy air. It flew like an arrow over a thousand miles of frozen wast, and flhen sped forward over anothei thousand miles of ocean and plins and forests, and one morning entered the window of the waiting mistress and delivered the message which she had been awiaiting eo anxiously. We boast of human pluck, says the New York Mail and Express, sagacity and endurance, but this loving little carrier pigeon, in its homeward flig.ht after an absence of 30 months, accomplished a feat so wonderful that we can only give ourselves upto the amazement and admiration which must overwhelm everyone when the marvelous story is told. JIrs. ÜV'ansen's pigeon is one of the wonders of the world.
