Tobacco And Rice In Maryland
According to the Baltimore News the farmers of Maryland are becoming interested in the movement for a general cultivation of tobáceo and for the introduction of the raising of rice. In earlier days tobáceo was grown throughout the state, but for the last half century it has been confined to the counties of southern Maryland. Rice has never been grown in the state, but the recent success with this erop in lower New Jersey has led many to think that it can be profitably taken up in Delaware and Maryland. The yield of rice is from 35 to 60 bushels an acre, and the net profit is said to be from $25 to $45 an acre.
