Detroit's new school superintendent proposes to make his ten strike in the primary and grarnmar grades. If all reports are true, that ia where some effective work can be done in Aun Arbor. - Daily Times. The Times probably means that more attention should be paid to the lower grades, and less to the upper. Carried to its legitímate conclusión that would mean that the masses who never get bevond the primary grades should receive the best possible eduiation, while those who go farther might secure less polish. The strength of the high school course in Ann Arbor is wliat has made it fatnous, and wliat bas brought here in the past, hundreds of foreign pupils, every one of which helps the scliool and also the city itself. While more attention might be paid to the primary grades to the advantage of the pupils attending them, yet it would be a suicida! policy to lower the character of the work in the upper grades.
