VVhen Martin .7. Gavonaugli was lected School Coinmissioner fortheunspired term of Wm. W. Wedemeyer, ie was a member of the Board ofCounty ohool Examiners. The fact that lie as a iiíenaber of the Board raised a uestion whether he could hold the potion of Examiner and Commissioner t the same time. Desiring to find out alout tlie matter, letter was written to tlie Attoruey Genral to ascertain his opinión, wheii the pinion came it stated that when Mr. avanaugh assuined tlie duties of Comïissioner, the office of Examiner held y hiin becanie vacant, and that the (licials whose duty it was to üll tlie vaancy had a right at any time to elect a ew Examiner to fill snch vacancy. Ácting npon this opinión, the two lembers of the board, Commissioner Vm. N. Lister and Examiner Herbert . Dancer, met with Probate Judge Xpwkirk, at the probate office Monday fternoon, and elected Prof. Durand W. pringer, tlie teacher of the commercial onrse at the high school, as au Bxamler to fill the vacancy. Prof. Springer is a teacher, a man who s thoroughly qualifled, and a man who s in touch with the teachers of the ouiity. The selection is a most admible one. Prof. Springer is absent from home at resent, but it is underetood thatlie will onsent to take the place. It' he will, a etter man could not be selected. Mr. Cavanaugh, who retires, is one of our foremost citizens, made a good school commissioner for four years, and retires with the good will and confidence of teachers and people alike.
